Summit was hired to assist Muhlenberg County Schools with the final phase of their high school consolidation. They were needing to expand their existing kitchen and cafeteria to accommodate 1,200 students. With their current high school being 22 years old, Summit presented a design that would expand the cafeteria into the existing kitchen space and then construct a new fully functional kitchen with food court style serving. The new cafeteria features alternative style seating with informational screens and electronic menus. The space also features social seating along the perimeter for students to have a variety of spaces to eat lunch. The space also doubles as a space for student teams to gather to collaborate on class projects. The Kitchen offers food court style serving allowing the district food service to offer more nutritional choices for students to obtain their nutrition. The new kitchen will function efficiently by allowing all 1,200 students to receive lunch in only three lunch periods. Therefore giving the students more time to properly consume their food and have time for socialization with their peers.
